School Year 2012/ 2013

We are delighted to welcome our new Playground Supervisor Janette Ruddick who has been doing supply cover for us for some months now.  We hope she enjoys being a part of our school family.

All pupils and staff very much enjoyed the annual Voxter Trip on Thursday 13th September 2012 with an overnight stay and a second day of outdoor activities on Friday 14th September for pupils in Primaries 3-7.  Click HERE for more details and photos.

We have very much enjoyed our visits from Mr Harry Rose from the Shetland Field Studies Trust during October 2012 who has been helping us with our Rainforest project.

We had great fun at our Halloween Party on Friday 2nd November.  We were joined by some of our pre-school bairns and by parents who also donated towards our fun Halloween snack!

On Thursday 8th November, our P7 pupils attended the Multi-sport Day at the Clickimin Centre.  Our P1-5 pupils spent the day at the Waste to Energy Plant and Recycling Centre.  We would like to say a big thank you to Willum Spence and Mary Lisk for the wonderful trip!

We have also been fortunate enough to enjoy some After School Club sessions of African Drumming with Joy Duncan during November.  All pupils really enjoyed the sessions and enjoyed meeting Joy.  Thank you.

We were very sorry to say Goodbye to one of our pupils, Zander, who left us in November to move to Fife.  We are sure he'll be very happy there and we would like to wish him and his family all the very best.

On Tuesday 27th November, we held our first Open Evening for parents and families.  Between the hours of 5 and 8 p.m. parents and families were welcome to come and look at children's work and try out a range of different learning activities in the classroom and also have appointments with Mrs Raikes if they wished.  It was a very relaxed atmosphere with teas and coffees available with the odd biscuit and seems to have been a success that we will be repeating.

Our Christmas Panto this year is "Cinders" which we will be performing in the Ollaberry Hall on Thursday 13th December.  Doors open at 6:30 for a 7 p.m. start.  Everyone is most welcome.  The performance will be followed by 8 o'clocks in the club room.  Donations towards the 8 o'clocks and raffle will be greatly appreciated.  Funds raised will be split between School Funds and the SSPCA (which was chosen by our Pupil Council).

We are very sorry to say Goodbye to our Music Teacher Mrs Marlene Williamson , who although has only been with us for a short time, will be sadly missed when she retires this December.   Good Luck Mrs Williamson and enjoy your well-earned retirement.  We hope you will come back to visit us.

Our Christmas Nativity will be performed this year on Wednesday 19th December at 2:45 p.m.  Families, friends and pre-school bairns are invited to come along - pre-schoolers can even come along as extra angels or shepherds if they wish.

The last day of term is Friday 21st December and we will close at 3:15 p.m.  We will have our Christmas Dinner that day and also our Christmas Assembly with Rev. Bob McGregor.  Special thanks to Sam, our Cook, who always goes the extra mile to provide us with a yummy dinner and to Janette for her help.  We hope everyone has a great Christmas break and we'll see you back on Monday 7th January 2013.
